HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Eight border policemen have been captured by armed Taliban militants in the Ghorian district of western Herat province, said the district chief on Thursday.
Farhad Khademi, the Ghorian district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the insurgents attacked security check posts in Musa Abad area of Ghorian district late on Wednesday night, killing one border policeman and capturing eight others.
He said it remained unclear how the border troops were captured but an investigation had been launched to determine what exactly happened.
Meanwhile, local sources, who did not want to be named, said 17 border guards manned the Musa Abad check post and Taliban insurgents captured 10 of them and took away all their equipment on Wednesday.
The sources added no one was killed or injured in the incident.
