KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior on Monday announced saving 2.5 billion afghanis by reducing expenses, preventing corruption and removing ghost personnel during the last two years.
Gen. Daud Hassas, MoI internal security chief, told a press conference here that 647 imaginary personnel were removed police ranks and 2,393 police personnel introduced to the Attorney General Office (AGO) in the period.
He said they reduced the Interior Ministry’s ration expenditure by preventing corruption compared to previous years.
Savings in ration:
Referring to corruption in the Interior Ministry, he said that “unfortunately” the existence of corruption in the Interior Ministry had confronted police capabilities with further challenges.
He said, “We were able to save 2.5 billion afghanis in the last two years.”
He said according to their calculations, in 2020 more than seven billion afghanis were saved from the ration budget and will save 500 million afghanis more by the end of this year and it will be spent next year.
Saving in oil purchases:
Col. Hassan said since the beginning of this fiscal year, about 22 million liters of fuel was saved and predictions showed that by the end of the current fiscal year, 28 million liters of more fuel will be saved.
Saving in ammunition:
He said more than 31 million different types of ammunitions have been saved in the last two years.
Saving in fuel
He said 300 million afghanis were also saved in terms of fuel consumption last year.
The official said around 2,393 police personnel had been arrested and introduced to the AGO after being accused of crimes in the last two years.
He said 86 of them were accused and arrested for murder, 32 for robbery, 153 for injuring and 31 for sexual abuse cases.
He said 54 others were recognized as enemy and later introduced to the AGO. He said 103 individuals have been terminated from the police force.
During operations, around 647 officials have been removed as imaginary and 303 different types of weapons and 161 vehicles were also collected these individuals.
