TALOQAN (Pajhwok): At least 25 security personnel, including the deputy police chief of northern Takhar province, have been killed in a clash with Taliban insurgents, an official said on Wednesday.
Jawad Hijri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News clashes erupted between the Taliban and the security forces in Baharak and Khwaja Ghar districts on Tuesday night.
He said 25 security personnel, including deputy police chief Raz Mohammad Durandesh, were killed in one of the firefights.
Another source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok that dozens of security forces had suffered casualties and many bodies had been evacuated to hospital.
Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
