MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least 13 civilians and Taliban insurgents have been killed and nine others wounded during separate incidents of violence in western Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
Faryab police spokesman Abdul KarimYurosh told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban insurgents attacked security check-posts and the centers of Qaisar, Garziwan and Dawlatabad districts, on Monday night.
He said security forces repulsed the attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents.
He said Mualvi Matin aka Ghazanfar, Taliban’s shadow police chief for Garziwan district and Qari Hezbollah, Taliban’s deputy district chief for the same district, were killed and five others wounded in the clashes.
Another three insurgents were killed and two others wounded in Dawlatabad district and two insurgents were killed and a third wounded in Qaisar district.
Mohammad Nader Saeedi, a member of the provincial council, said two roadside bomb blasts killed three civilians in Kohi and Arzlik villages.
Saeedi said the first blast took place in Arzlik village, killing two people and the second explosion Kohi village killed an 18-year-old youth.
