PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi have conferred on bilateral relations and progress in the Afghan peace process.
Qureshi urged Afghanistan to seize the opportunity offered by the peace negotiations and make the dialogue result-oriented to realise the dream of durable peace in Afghanistan.
In a telephone call on Tuesday, Qureshi said peace in Afghanistan was linked to the stability of the region. He promised Pakistan would continue making sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region, including Afghanistan.
Qureshi informed Atmar about Pakistan introducing a new visa regime to facilitate the travel of Afghan people, including patients, students and businesspeople.
Atmar expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s assistance and cooperation with Afghanistan and the Afghan refugees living in that country.
Both sides also explored possibilities of resolving visa issues and expanding consular capacity for Afghan citizens.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening regional consensus on peace talks, with Qureshi suggesting the ongoing violence in Afghanistan could be ended through talks.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for the Afghan peace process and the preservation of achievements of the past 19 years.
