KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Five members of a family were killed, including three children, when a roadside bomb tore through a rickshaw in Kandahar province, an official said.
A sixth person was injured in the landmine explosion that took place in Sar Karez area of Maiwand district last night, police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barakzai said.
He accused the Taliban of emplacing the improvised explosive device, saying the dead included three children, a woman and an elderly man.
He said soon after the blast, police reached the scene and evacuated the dead and wounded to hospital.
Barakzai said the Taliban insurgents had not only increased their attacks on security posts, but had also intensified placing landmines on roads, which often caused civilian casualties.
The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
Recently hundreds of Taliban militants have arrived in various districts of Kandahar and have been waging attacks on security forces.
The security forces have also launched operations to suppress the rebel activities.
