Flour, sugar and gas prices jump in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of flour, sugar and liquefied gas jumped and that of other daily-use items stayed unchanged during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

Hamid Sufizada, a wholesale store owner in Dahn-i-Bagh locality, said the wholesale price of a 49-kg bag of Kazakhstani flour increased from 1,700afs to 1,750afs and 50 kilograms of Indian sugar from 2,200afs to 2,300afs.

He linked the hike in the prices to low imports and high demand in the country. He, however, sold a 24kg of Pakistani rice for 2,300afs, 16 liters of Malaysian ghee for 1,400afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green and African black tea for 300afs and 230afs respectively, the same rates as previous week.

Mohammad Hussain, a retailer in Mandavi Market, said the retail price of 49 kilogram bag of Kazakh flour was 1,800afs, 49-kilogram of Indian sugar 2,350afs, 24-kilogram of Pakistani Sela rice 2,400afs, 16-litre of Malysian Oil 1,450afs, one kilogram of Indonesian green team 320afs and one kilogram of black African team 320afs—higher than wholesale rates.

Gold prices remain unchanged

Mohammad Javed, a jeweler in the Layci Maryam Market, said the price of one gram of Arabic gold was 3,750afs and of Russian variety 3,150afs, the same rates as last week’s.

The price of liquefied gas increases

Mohammad Sharif, a gas seller in Kolola Pushta area of Kabul, said that the price of one kilogram of gas increased from 55afs to 60afs.

Fuel and firewood prices remain unchanged.

According to Ahmad Javed, owner of a petrol pump in Wazirabad area, the price of one litre petrol was 35afs, and one litre diesel 36afs, same as last week’s.

Abdul Hakim, a firewood seller, said that the price of 560kg of peeled oak and cedar each was 8,000afs.

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat money exchange service, said the value of one US dollar was 76.90 afghanistan and 1,000 Pakistani rupee exchanged for 479afs, against last week’s 77afs and 474afs.
