Scores of insurgents killed, wounded in south

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Dozens of Taliban militants have been killed and wounded in air and ground operations in southern provinces, officials say.

Kandahar police chief Gen. Tadin Khan said at least 27 Taliban insurgents were killed and several others wounded in an air-and-ground operation in the Nahr-i-Karez area of Zerhai district in the past 24 hours.

Separately, 64 militants were killed and 20 others wounded during airstrikes in Kohak and Nagahan areas of Arghandab district, he said.

Khan added the security force had given the Taliban a tit-for-tat response in Arghandab district.

In neighbouring Helmand, at least 10 Taliban insurgents were killed in a clash with security forces in the Bushran area of Lashkargah, said the Maiwand Military Corps.

In Kabul, the Ministry of Defence said the air force targeted militants in Deh Rawood and Gizab districts of Uruzgan province. The airstrike resulted in killing of 12 rebels and injuries to three more.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the latest security incidents.
