KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): One civilian has been killed and 21 others have been wounded as a result of an explosion in the Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban insurgents stormed a security base in the Andarabi village of the district on Tuesday night.

He said the militants struck the base with a bomb in an attempt to destroy it. At least 15 civilians were injured and a number of rebels were also suffered casualties, he added.

Hayatullah Amiri, the district’s administrative chief, confirmed the incident and said information about casualties was not immediately available.

But Dr Rasoul Khan, head of the Khanabad hospital, confirmed receiving one body and 21 injured individuals from the blast site.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the attack, which came hours after a similar assault on a border police base in the province.
