KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has congratulated Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris on their victory in the US presidential ballot.
While greeting them, Ghani tweeted that Afghanistan looked forward to deepening its multilayered strategic partnership with the United States.
Kabul and Washington would remain foundational partners in counterterrorism and bringing peace to Afghanistan, Ghani wrote.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the High Council for National Reconciliation chairman, also congratulated Biden and Harris on their electoral success.
Former president Hamid Karzai welcomed Biden’s call for unity and healing. “We need the same in Afghanistan in a much deeper and more profound way.”
The Biden administration’s relations with Afghanistan would focus entirely on bringing peace and stability to the war-torn country, he hoped.
