KABUL (Pajhwok): Fist Vice President Amrullah Saleh claimed on Saturday the mastermind behind the Kabul University attack had been arrested.
At least 22 individuals, mostly student, were killed and 39 others wounded in the assault on the Kabul University.
Saleh wrote on his Facebook page the security agencies had arrested one of the key perpetrators of the attack, having links to a militant organisation.
The detainee was identified as Adel, son of Mohammad Arif, who studied at the Faculty of Sharia until third grade before being recruited by Sanaullah — a former member of the Haqqani Network.
“He says he was told to do something to put pressure on this government, damage its image and make it look inefficient in public eyes. Adel is originally from Panjsher province and his family lives in Pul-i-Charkhi area,” the VP wrote.
Saleh added the people of the neighborhood, who planned the attack, say that he had disappeared for three years and there were claims that he had gone for training on militancy and terror techniques.
“Adel says he received weapons from the Haqqani network in Khost province and followed the directions of Sanaullah,” Saleh continued.
The Taliban have denied involvement in the attack, which was claimed by Daesh (Islamic State) from a website it has used in the past. But later on, it retracted the assertion.
