JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Intelligence operatives in eastern Nangarhar province have arrested a kidnapping gang leader involved in dozens of abduction cases, an official claimed on Sunday.
According to local officials, the detainee had been arrested two times before as well by the security forces but returned to his illegal activities after being freed from jail.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel detained the gang leader named Aslam Khan during a special raid.
He said Aslam had been accused of involvement in dozens of kidnappings.
He added the detainee was currently being interrogated by intelligence agents and would be referred to the judiciary for further interrogations.
In another report, the NDS personnel seized 26 bags of explosives packed skillfully in a vehicle in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
Khogyani said the vehicle had been seized in limits of the 9th police district. Besides 26 bags of explosives, 1,000 bullets of machine gun, 200 bullets of rifle, more than 500 bullets of Kalashnikov and five landmines were also seized.
