KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar has thanked the UNHCR Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi for his continued cooperation with Afghan refugees.
The sides discussed the role of various organisations, especially the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other institutions in areas of migrant capacity building and immigrant integration.
Grandi commended recent activities of the Afghan government, which started the process of identification and distribution of ID cards and passports to Afghan refugees in Iran.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the official said the UNHCR was ready to support the Afghan government’s plans to distribute ID cards and passports to Afghan refugees in Iran.
Atmar briefed Grandi on Kabul’s activities and programmes for refugees in Iran and Pakistan.
Grandi told Atmar about the safety and security of asylum seekers and refugees outside Afghanistan and stated the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as a responsible body, would not hesitate to cooperate with Afghan refugees.
