KABUL and reaffirm UK commitment to improving the current situation, according to a statement on Wednesday.
During her meeting with Afghanistan’s Acting Human Rights Minister, Dr Sima Samar, Ms. French welcomed the start of peace talks.
She reiterated the need for women, including minority communities, the youth, and journalists.
Ms. French participated in roundtables with prominent Afghan human rights and media freedom activists, as well as members of the Afghan youth and Hazara community. She learnt about the challenges these groups face in working to make Afghanistan a more equal, safer place in which to live and work.
Ms. French condemned the recent attacks on journalists and education centres, reaffirming that the UK and international partners stand with the youth and members of the media who have a crucial part to play in helping to shape the future of the country.
The visit showcased the work of Afghan human rights activists and civil society organisations, and demonstrated how the UK will continue to champion those who dedicate their lives to creating a fairer, peaceful Afghanistan.
