KABUL (Pajhwok): The news regarding the death of Mohammad Muhaqiq, head of the Wahdat-i-Islami Political Party, circulating in social media is not true.

Muhaqiq got infected with coronavirus in July, but he recovered. He is currently hospitalized in Turkey after a surgical operation.

In the past two days, some social media activists have been spreading the news of his death from coronavirus in social media, which has been rejected by Muhaqiq’s office.

A Facebook user Cricketer Queen under a topic Kabul University Students published a post dated to 19/11/2020 and said: “Shocking News! Mohammad Muhaqiq passed away in one of Turkey’s hospitals due to coronavirus.”

Nearly 200 social media users shared their views under this post, some shared it and hundreds of others liked it.

Some considered this news as true and offered condolences to the friends and family members of the deceased and sought Jannah for the departed soul.

Shabir Ahmad Saheem, another Facebook user in his Facebook group Kabul Security News, shared this news on his Facebook page.

MahaNoori, another social media user on her facebook page, shared the news regarding Muhaqiq’s death and said: “Muhaqiq passed away today due to coronavirus he was suffering from.”

Another social media user Noori Media also shared news regarding Muhaqiq’s dearth and wrote: “Muhaqiq lost his life battling coronavirus in one of Turkey’s hospitals.”

But a number of other social media users termed the news as untrue. Imran Afghan, a facebook user, said: “It is wrong, today we together drank tea.”

Farhan Khan, another social media user, in his facebook page Kabul Security Now wrote: “Mr. Muhaqiq is in the hospital bed, he is under treatment in one of Turkey Hospitals. What do you want from Allah for him”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Muhaqiq’s office rejected the social media publications regarding his demise and termed it wrong.

Muhaqiq’s Secretary SibghatullahAhmadi said: “Few moments earlier, we talked to Mr. Muhaqiq and he is completely fine.”

 The purpose of Muhaqiq’s trip to Turkey was to undergo a surgical operation to extract some bullet fragments remaining in his body. His operation is over and he is completely in stable condition.

Asadullah Saberi, another social media user in his twitter page wrote: “Mohammad Zakria Barakzai, Afghan Consulate General in Istanbul on November 20 met Muhaqiq in his residence.”

During the meeting, Muhaqiq briefed Barakzai about his operation and termed it satisfactory.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus in the country until now 44,503 persons have tested positive for the virus in which 35,422 have recovered while 1,675 died.

Worldwide, over 56.6 million persons contracted coronavirus that claimed the lives of over 1.3 million people.
