KABUL (Pajhwok): The US Embassy in Kabul issued a security alert to all its citizens on Saturday, soon after rockets slammed parts of the capital.
In a statement, the embassy suggested Americans based in Kabul “may wish to consider departing”.
The embassy said the US Department of State warned American citizens against travel to Afghanistan.
It added: “The security situation in Afghanistan is extremely unstable and the threat to all US citizens in Afghanistan remains critical.
“US citizens currently visiting or residing in Afghanistan may wish to consider departing,” the statement read.
The embassy strongly urged US citizens who decide to remain in Afghanistan to review their personal security plans, take appropriate steps to enhance their personal safety and remain aware of their surroundings.
Earlier in the day, two IED blasts occurred in Kabul, followed by a string of rockets that hit several areas including the diplomatic zone.
