Covid-19: Afghanistan’s tally nears 45,000

KABUL (Pajhwok):  At least 282 new positive Covid-19 cases have been detected during the last 24 hours, pushing the overall tally near 45000, said the Public Health Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said 1,332 people underwent tests during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 282 people.

The new cases included 87 in Kabul, 41 in Nangarhar, 39 in Parwan, 28 in Ghazni, 23 in Kandahar, 15 in Balkh, 12 in Bamyan, 7 in Zabul, 5 in Baghlan, 6 in Helmand , four each in Daikundi, Maidan Wardak and Panjsher provinces.

The Ministry of Public Health did not mention corona figures in Herat province.  But Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, a spokesman for Herat’s public health department, said the laboratories had stopped operating due to a limited number of blood samples.

The virus has so far killed 1,695 people and 42,000 people have recovered so far.

The Public Health Ministry had announced that the second wave of the pandemic has begun in the country and people should follow its guidelines.
