KABUL (Pajhwok): Heavy snowfall has closed the Ghor-Kabul and Ghor-Herat roads in central Ghor province, trapping dozens of passengers since last night, an official said on Monday.
Abdul MajidSamim, Roads Maintenance Department Head, told Pajhwok Afghan News if the stranded passengers on the highways were not rescued, a human catastrophe would happen, demanding an immediate access to the passengers trapped in snow.
He said besides main roads, other connectivity roads with districts had also been closed.
GhulamSakhiSabouryar, the administrative chief of Shahrak district from which the Ghor-Herat road passes, said tens of passengers had been trapped as a result of heavy snowing on the road. He said up to 30cm snow had fallen and they lacked the capacity to reopen the roads.
Sardar, one of the stranded passengers in a telephonic conversation, said: “We are trapped near GhokTunnel, there are women men, children and sick persons. We want the government to remove snow from the road so we can move.”
