KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Wednesday said 212 new positive Covid-19 cases were detected during the last 24 hours that saw 16 people dying from the infection.
The ministry said 1,476 people underwent tests during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 212 people, pushing up the total number of cases in the country to 45,490.
Of the fresh cases, 56 were registered in Kabul, 33 in Kapisa, 24 in Nangarhar, 23 in Balkh, 15 in Herat, 12 in Kandahar, 12 in Logar, seven in Farah, six in Kunduz, six in Parwan, four in Badghis, four in Maidan Wardak, four in Zabul, two in Baghlan and two each in Nimroz and Ghor.
At least 23 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the past 24 hours, pushing up the number of recoveries to 36,145.
About 16 people lost their lives to the virus during the period and the total tally of deaths reached 1,728.
The ministry has announced that the second wave of the pandemic has begun in the country and people should follow its guidelines.
