KABUL (Pajhwok): In addition to other topics, a ceasefire will be on the agenda of intra-Afghan peace negotiations in Doha, the Taliban say.
Mohammad Naeem, spokesman for Taliban’s political office, tweeted on Friday the agenda would be firmed up based on an agreement between the two parties.
Also on Friday, a member of the government’s negotiating team said talks on the agenda of the peace dialogue could begin on Saturday (today).
Naturally, he said, the government delegation would insist on a ceasefire. “However, we will see which issues the Taliban want to be on the agenda,” the negotiator added.
Earlier, the two sides had agreed on rules and procedures for the snail-paced talks that began nearly three months ago.
The negotiations are expected to enter a new phase, in which public calls for a comprehensive ceasefire would come under discussion.
Meanwhile Tolo News quoted former Taliban commander Syed Akbar Agha as saying: “A ceasefire on which the government insists and the establishment of an Islamic system as demanded by the Taliban could be on the agenda.”
