PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A veteran Pakistani politician hopes Afghan negotiators will redouble their efforts to make the peace parley a success.
Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao welcomed the Kabul-Taliban agreement on rules and procedures for talks.
The deal would pave the way for the restoration of viable peace in Afghanistan, a longstanding demand of the people, Sherpao believed.
“We welcome the news that both sides in Doha have reached an agreement on procedures to chalk out a political roadmap and a comprehensive ceasefire,” he said..
“Hopefully, they would now work sincerely to put an end to the miseries of the people of Afghanistan,” the QWP chairman remarked.
Sherpao said the Afghans had suffered a lot over the last four decades of war and the current opportunity must be seized to bring stability to Afghanistan.
He urged the stakeholders to move forward cautiously to take the peace initiative successfully to its logical conclusion.
The QWP chief hoped peace in Afghanistan would help bring durable stability to the entire region and Pakistan would also benefit from that.
Pakhtuns on both sides of the Durand Line had immensely suffered during the last 40 years due to bloodshed in the region.
