ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Three notorious Al-Qaeda members have been arrested in southwestern Nimroz province, the local National Directorate of Security (NDS) office said in a statement on Sunday.
“NDS personnel in a coordinated operation identified, confirmed and arrested three members of Al-Qaeda Network in Nimroz province,” the statement read.
It identified the detainees as Mustafa, known as Hassan, son of Abdul Ghafar, a resident of ChaharBurjak district, who heads Al-Qaeda Amar Bil Marof Affairs, Hafiz Abdul Aziz alias Asem son of Haji Janan, a resident of Khashroud district and Hayatullah known as Hafiz Mohamamd, resident of Baghlan province.
Mustafa and Hafiz Mohammad recently lived in Iran, the statement said. They carried out terrorist attacks under leadership of Hafiz Ghulamullah, deputy intelligence head of Al-Qaeda in Nimroz.
The statement said the detainees were involved in several terrorist attacks, including targeted incidents and attacks on security forces check-posts at Kamal Khan Dam.
According to the statement, the detained individuals were planning targeted attacks against some individuals in Zaranj City. They confessed to their crimes supported by documents available with the NDS
