MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Eight security personnel have been killed and four others wounded in separate incidents of violence in northern Faryab province, officials said on Sunday.
Police spokesman Abdul KarimYourish told Pajhwok Afghan News that three security personnel were killed in a clash with Taliban militants in Dahindra Band area of Pastunkot district.
Separately, he said, two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and a Taliban fighter were killed in two separate landmine explosions in Gurziwan district.
Yourish said the two ANA troops were killed in a roadside bomb explosion on Saturday evening. He said another soldier, who was injured in a clash a day earlier, died of his wounds today.
The Taliban fighter, Sher Mohammad, was killed while planting a roadside bomb. A second fighter was wounded in the blast.
Mullah FaizullahRahmani, Gurziwan district chief, confirmed the killing of two security personnel in the landmine blast.
Abdul RazaqKargar, Dawlatabad district chief, said militants stormed the district center from three directions before dawn.
He said one NDS officer was killed and four others wounded as a result of a mortar strike during the attack.
The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
