Draft budget for 2021 lands in Wolesi Jirga

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Monday presented the annual draft budget for fiscal year 2021, with domestic revenue covering 48 percent of the accounts.

In line with the Constitution of the country, the draft budget is first dispatched to the Mesharano Jirga or Senate for consultation and approval and then sent to the Wolesi Jir or lower house for endorsement.

Afghanistan’s fiscal year begins from December 22.

Abdul HabibZadran, MoF secretary finance, during his briefing to the lower house said that 48 percent of the total budget, which accounted for 216.5 billion afs, would be supported from domestic revenue and the remaining from foreign sources.

“By attracting more investment, the government would strive to support larger part of the budget from domestic sources. Key programs are underway to attract more investment,” he said.

He said that the draft budget has been prepared in line with international standards and on the basis of government priorities and available resources.

After his briefing, Zadran officially handed over the draft budget to Speaker Mir RahmanRahmani and asked lawmakers to review the draft. He said if lawmakers needed more details, leadership of the MoF was ready to respond.
