KABUL (Pajhwok): A religious scholar and a retired Police officer have been gunned down by unidentified attackers in Kabul.
A security official, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News the religious scholar was shot dead in the Pul-i-Charkhi area of the 9th police district of Kabul on Wednesday evening.
The source said Maulvi Hamidullah, a prayer leader in the Afghan National Army (ANA), was killed on his way to the mosque.
According to another report, a retired police officer was killed in the Kota area of the 5th police district of the capital.
Obaidullah Qayyumi, giving an eyewitness account of the incident said the former police officer was crossing the road when unknown gunmen opened fire at him.
Kabul police have not yet commented on the incidents, which came amidst a spike in targetted killings in Kabul.
