MoPH urges care as burn cases surge in winter

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) registered 5,884 burn cases in which 89 persons died during the ongoing solar year in two hospitals of Kabul City.

In the three quarters of ongoing solar year, the Isteqlal Hospital and the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul registered 5,884 burn cases, in which 89 persons had died.

According to information from the two hospitals, 6,582 burn cases were registered in the previous year in which 105 people had died. Considering growing deaths from burn cases, the MoPH asked people to be careful while using electric and gas devices.

Dr. Ahmad Shah Wazir, head of Burn Branch at Isteqlal Hospital, said with the arrival of winter season, burn cases had surged and it was an annual phenomena.

He said in majority of burn cases leg or hand was chopped off and burn signs on the body took 10 to 15 years to recover.

He said in recent years the reasons behind burn incidents included explosion of gas cylinder, electric short circuit, fire, petrol or chemicals.

According to Dr. Wazir, the best way to protect from burn incidents was spreading awareness regarding threat from electric, gas and other devices that caused fire incidents.
