CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a religious scholar in western Farah province while a traffic police officer has committed suicide in central Parwan province, officials said on Monday.
Abdul Qayyum, a resident of Farah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Maulvi Ghulam Sakhi — a prayer leader in Lash-wa-Joy district — was gunned down by unknown attackers on Sunday night.
He said the slain scholar was a known figure in the district and people respected had supported him.
Dadullah Qane, chairman of the provincial council, said Ghulam Sakhi had been killed by the “enemies of the country”.
There was no claim of responsibility for the murder.
Traffic officer ends it all
Mohammad Lemar Usmanyar, the administrative chief for Syedkhel district of Parwan, told Pajhwok Mohammad Roki, 32, shot himself in the head with a pistol.
Without providing details, he said the incident took place in the Ashtarkar village of the district. He believed domestic problems were behind the incident.
