BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials say the Public Health Department director for central Bamyan province has been arrested over charges of corruption and misuse of authority.
Sayedali Aqa Ayub Naser, the Bamyan public health director, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and is currently in custody.
Mualvi Atiqullah, Bamyan deputy governor, told a press conference in the provincial capital that the public health director was detained on graft charges and misuse of authority.
An official, who wished to go unnamed, said that Naser was accused of moral, administrative corruption and misuse of his position.
He said the organs that arrested the public health director were under pressure from some elements to release him.
In the last one decade, more than 30 senior government officials and other workers have been arrested over administrative corruption and misuse of power in the province.
However, people say the arrested figures were released in a short period of time without being punished.
This comes as Bamyan residents have been complaining about incompetency of officials and problems in the health sector and say no one listens or resolves their problems.
Pajhwok Afghan News tried to contact security officials for their comment about the detention of the public health director, but no one responded.
