KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia says the Islamic State, locally known as Daesh, is using its potential in Afghanistan to step up extremist activities in Central Asian countries.

“The country is regularly rocked by bloody terror attacks which, regrettably, have become an everyday practice in the recent years,” Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN said.

Anna Yevstigneyeva, addressing a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan, said: “It is evidence of the presence of terrorist elements of various types in that country.”

TASS quoted to the Russian diplomat as blaming the Islamic State for many large-scale attacks. “Cells of foreign militants, most of whom have combat experience after Syria and Iraq, continue to operate in that country.

“Among other sad incidents are an attack of the Kabul University and a missile strike on the capital city,” she added.
