KABUL (Pajhwok): The Security Council has decided to extend the mandate of the team monitoring sanctions against individuals and entities associated with the Taliban.
As it extended the team’s mandate for a year, the 15-member UN body voiced its serious concern over the ongoing violence in Afghanistan.
Unanimously adopting resolution 2557 (2020), the Council directed the monitoring team to gather information on instances of non-compliance with the measures.
A UN statement said the council welcomed recent efforts by the Afghan government and the Taliban to facilitate Intra-Afghan negotiations.
It underlined the importance of ensuring that the monitoring team received the necessary administrative and substantive support to effectively fulfill its mandate in a safe and timely manner.
