KABUL (Pajhwok): First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh has said vehicles with Wolesi Jirga written on their number plates should be stopped with immediate effect.
Saleh, who is also in charge of Kabul security, said in his today’s 6:30 report at least 155 car owners had received such plates from the Ministry of Interior.
He wrote on his Facebook Page that there were information the Taliban and Islamic State (locally known as Daesh) might get these plates and it would create a disaster.
Saleh asked members of parliament not to travel in vehicles having number plate of Wolesi Jirga.
Earlier, some lawmakers said that about 3,000 plates for Wolesi Jirga (WJ) vehicles were being used illegally by some people, which had caused concerns.
According to Pajhwok Afghan News report on January 8, 2019, five Wolesi Jirga and as many Mesharano Jirga administrative panel members possessed legal vehicle registration plates (VRPs) and the remaining were illegal.
Wolesi Jirga secretariat and Ministry of Interior (MoI) officials said that a special VRP would be issued to lawmakers but that promise could not be implemented so far.
Gul Ahmad Noorzad, a lawmaker from Nimroz province, told Wolesi Jirga that around 3,000 vehicles used Wolesi Jirga VRPs and this was a matter of great concern.
Speaker Mir RahmanRahmani said he also had received reports that besides Wolesi Jirga members, some other individuals also used Wolesi Jirga VRPs.
He asked the MoI to swiftly distribute special VRP to lawmakers and collect the previous plates.
