KABUL(Pajhwok): Interior Minister Massoud Andarabi said on Thursday the Taliban had turned their guns on defenseless individuals following their failure on the battleground this season.

Targeted attacks have increased in Kabul and some provinces lately, however Andarabi said the attacks could be prevented through implementation of security programs.

The interior minister said Taliban attacks met with resistance and they failed in Helmand, Kandahar and other parts of the country to capture any area.

He claimed the Taliban’s 2020 fighting season was a failure as they had been unable to capture areas to seek leverage in the peace negotiations.

The minister said the Taliban through assassinating people wanted to gain leverage in peace talks but their such actions would only result in an increased people’s hatred for them.

He said police and other law enforcing agencies had taken necessary measures to prevent targeted attacks.
