JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eight insurgents and four pro-government fighters were killed during a clash in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, the governor said on Saturday.
Governor Zia-ul-HaqAmarkhel wrote on his Facebook page that Taliban militants attacked uprising forces check-posts in the second farm area of Batikot district.
In the ensuing clash, four uprising members and eight insurgents were killed and six others wounded.
Amarkhil said he was personally monitoring the issue with the military council to find a solution.
“We assure the people that we will work together for Batikot district security and this problem will be solved fundamentally.”
Meanwhile, hundreds of residents of Batikot district protested against the killing of the four uprising members and blocked the Torkham-Jalalabad road for several hours on Saturday.
Azizullah Aziz, a resident of the area, said the government was unconcerned about conspiracies being hatched to destabilize Batikot district.
