LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Taliban’s chief for Sangin district has been killed along with five associates in southern Helmand province.

The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the security forces conducted the raid in Sangin district on Saturday.

The source said that Taliban so-called district chief Mullah Safie was killed along with five other fighters.

The statement said Taliban commander Mullah Zahir was injured along with three other rebels in the strike.

Nawab Shah Zadran, spokesman for 215th Maiwand Military Corps, said six militants, including shadow district chief Mullah Safi, also known as Maulvi Nazim, were killed and four others wounded.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the airstrike in Helmand.
