KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work was inaugurated on a water storage dam in southern Zabul province on Sunday.
The National Development Agency in a statement said the water storage dam had been designed and funded by the National Water Regulation Department and its construction would be carried out by the Helmand Enterprise of the National Development Company.
The statement said the reservoir —- 15 meters high and 73 meters long — would consume more than 92 million afghanis and take 18 months to complete.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Zabul governor General Gul Ahmad Ahmad Rasooli, Police Chief Hekmatullah Kochi, Chairman of the Provincial Council Haji AtajanHaqvian,, Chairman of Marine Corps Nasser Shah Vaziri and a number of other local officials.
The governor during the inauguration of the Tori Dam, thanked President Ghani for his attention in the project and said he was pleased with implementation of development projects by the National Development Company in the province.
A number of tribal elders, religious scholars, civil society activists, journalists and people from various walks of life were also present on the occasion.
