JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty people, accused of making fake ID cards for obtaining Pakistani visa, have been arrested in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
Deputy governor Babrak Miakhel told Pajhwok Afghan News that they received several complaints of disorder in front of Pakistani consulate and they visited the area today.
He said 18 people were arrested for making fake ID cards and two others for printing them. These ID cards were made only to allow a visa applicant to go inside the consulate, he added.
The local administration has recently increased its focus on the consulate and corruption issues have mostly solved there, he said.
Miakhel added that several security personnel were also recently changed only for prevention of corruption in the consulate.
A large number of people in Nangarhar apply for Pakistani visas, which sometimes lead to disorder in the process.
Over a dozen people including 10 women died in a stampede in front of Pakistani consulate in Nangarhar in October.
