102 new Covid-19 cases detected in Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Wednesday announced detecting 102 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours nationwide.

The ministry in a statement said 1,691 people underwent tests since Tuesday and the virus was detected in 102 people, pushing the overall tally to 53,207.

It said 26 cases were detected in Herat, 17 in Kabul, 12 in Faryab, 11 in Nangarhar, nine in Takhar, five in Badghis, four in Helmand , three each in Kandahar, Ghor, two each in Paktia, Kapisa,Kunar and one each in  Nimroz, Logar, Khost provinces.

The ministry said 174 individuals recovered from the infection during the period, taking the recoveries to 42,840 and nine people lost their lives to the virus, with the total death toll reaching 2,253.

With the emergence of a new variant of coronavirus, a number of countries have re-closed their borders and the Afghan Ministry of Public Health has called on people to avoid traveling overseas.
