KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday announced launching a campaign to build regional and international consensus for the success of the Afghan peace process.
Gran Hiwad, a spokesman of MoFA, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar had started active contacts with US special representative for Afghan reconciliation process Zalmay Khalilzad, representatives of the United Nations and some countries in this regard.
He said the campaign for the Afghan peace process was launched after the government’s negotiating team’s trip to Qatar to enter the second phase of talks with the Taliban.
“The aim of this drive is to make the talks a success and meet the demands of the government and people, agreement on ceasefire and reduction in violence”, he said.
Arian added that the Afghan government was trying to achieve its priorities in the peace process.
Besides the US and the UN, Atmar also contacted representatives of Indonesia, Norway, India, Canada, Australia and Turkmenistan, he said, adding the foreign minister’s contacts about the peace process would continue.
Turkmen foreign minister, Raşit Meredow arrived in Kabul on Friday to talk with Afghan officials about the Afghan reconciliation process.
