KABUL (Pajhwok): Some Mesharano Jirga members on Sunday opposed the idea of formation of an interim government but the upper house first deputy chairman said a mechanism should be agreed that could ensure an end to the ongoing conflict.
Lately, members of the government-backed negotiating team and some political figures have termed the formation of an interim government as the only mechanism to end decade’s old conflict in the country.
Anar Kali Hunaryar, Mesharano Jirga member, said an interim government was established in special circumstances but currently Afghanistan has a system.
She said there were three state pillars functioning with security forces defending the nation, therefore there was no need for an interim set-up.
“Why Afghanistan should experience an interim government after two decades. We support peace process but not at the cost of a system which is in place,” she said.
Senate first deputy chairman Mohammad Alam Ezidyar, without naming an interim government, said: “We have welcomed the peace talks and now people are waiting its outcome. Talks mean compromising not enforcing own agenda, if the Taliban join the government, we welcome them and if they stress their own demands then a mechanism should be agreed which ensures the end of war in the country.”
Senate Chairman FazalHadiMuslimyar said the Mesharano Jirga had earlier clarified its stance on an interim setup and termed it against the interest of Afghanistan.
He hoped the second round of talks in Doha would ensure ceasefire and durable truce in the country.
