HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A transgender lost vision, hearing and his nervous system was damaged after unidentified men savagely beat him in western Herat province.

Saboor Husseini, a well-known transgender in Herat, was beaten by unidentified men in Herat city, the provincial capital, and one of his legs was burned.

Saboor was taken to Kabul for treatment and test results showed he had permanently lost his eyesight and hearing ability because of being severely hit in the head and face.

Fraidoon Fakoori, Herat theatre head who accompanied Husseini for treatment to Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Saboor had not only lost his eyesight and hearing but his nervous system had also been damaged after being badly hit in the head and face.

“He is suffering from trauma and loses his control due to the damage to his nervous system,” Fakoori said. He added doctors claim Saboor had permanently lost his eyesight and hearing.

Fakoori further added that he was in contact with 40 other trans-genders who feared going out of their homes.

“Unidentified men took Saboor to a house and put a burning knife on his leg,” Fakoori said.

Jilani Farhad, Herat provincial spokesman, said it was their responsibility to protect vulnerable people and that they would provide protection to trans-genders in case they filed a complaint.

The spokesman added Saboor had not filed any complaint with the local authorities.

Saboor worked as a primary school teacher in a rural area of Herat province and recently played a role in a local television series.
