KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Monday announced registering 79 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours across the country.

The ministry in a statement said 1,841 people underwent tests since Saturday and the virus was detected in 79 people, pushing the overall tally to 54,141.

It said 20 new cases were detected in Kunar, 15 in Nangarhar, 10 each in Kabul, in Herat, five in Nuristan, three each in   Baghlan, Badakhshan, Lagham,  two each in Kandahar, Nimroz, Logar, one each in Paktia, Panjsher, Khost and Zabul  provinces.

At least 543 individuals recovered from the disease, taking the recoveries to 46,411.

Three people lost their lives to the virus during the period, with the total death toll reaching 2,341.
