Take serious steps against targeted killings, activists tell govt

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some civil society activists in Kabul on Tuesday said only condemnations would not work and the government was required to take serious efforts against targeted killings.

Addressing reporters here, civil society activist Taranum Saeedi said the killing spree of under different pretexts was ongoing.

She said: “Peace talks have been ongoing for the past four months, but they did not yield any result as people are daily killed.”

Saeedi said the targeted assassinations were aimed at stopping civil society activities, asking the government to conduct serious investigation into targeted killings and stop the carnage.

Another activist Bahram said the government only condemned the killing of journalists and civil society activists instead of taking serious measures to stop such incidents.

Activist ShahramRahmani said the culprits and masterminds behind targeted killings should be unearthed and punished.

He said cases of slain journalists and activists shall be investigated and the international community should also lend support in this regard.

Some other activists also shared similar views and condemned such incidents in strongest words. They released a joint resolution at the end.
