JALALBAD (Pajhwok): At least 17 Taliban insurgents were killed after airstrikes targeted their bases in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Governor’s spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the airstrikes hit Taliban bases in Momand Dara area of Spin Ghar district and in the Kakrak area of Sararud district yesterday afternoon.
He said the slain insurgents included two local commanders, Abdul Zada aka Sangari and Burj.
Weapons and ammunition belonging to the rebels were also destroyed during the airstrikes, Khogyani said, without mentioning whether Afghan or foreign forces carried out the airstrikes. He said civilians escaped unhurt in the blitz.
The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
