KABUL (Pajhwok): Six police personnel have been wounded in a bomb explosion near a security checkpoint in western Herat province, officials said on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said the explosion happened Tuesday night near a police post in the Injil district of the province.

Four policemen were injured in the blast and evacuated to hospital for medical treatment, he said, without commenting on their condition.

But Public Health Department spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai put at six the number of the injured policemen who were brought to hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb blast.
