FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Police in north-eastern Badakhshan province on Thursday said they planned to launch operations in areas under Taliban’s control after the rebels captured seven villages in Argo district.
Police spokesman SanaullahRohani told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban on Wednesday night launched attacks on the Argo district, sparking a gun-battle with police that continued until midnight.
The insurgents captured DehMagas, DehBala, DehPayin, Barlas, Khayaan, Changa and Tajika villages of the district.
He added GulMirza, commander of public uprising group and a member of Taliban were killed in the clash. Security personnel retreated in order to avoid casualties.
He added police after a military training planned to recapture the villages.
The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
It is to be mentioned here that the said villages were earlier announced to be cleared of Taliban’s presence during a military operation.
