JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A Taliban recruiter was killed during a clash with security forces in the Pachiragam district of eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday, officials said.
Governor’s spokesman, Ataullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces killed Mullah Ghaffar, a Taliban recruiter, during a clash in the Pachir area of Pachiragam district.
He said Mullah Ghaffar was killed after he refused to surrender and attacked the forces. A Kalashnikov, a walkie-talkie and two mobile phones were recovered from him.
Farid Khan, police spokesman, confirmed the incident and said security forces had not been harmed in the clash.
Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in Chaparhar district on charges of being a member of Islamic State (IS).
Khogyani said National Directorate of Security (NDS) Special Forces arrested the man named Syed Rohullah during a night operation in Dawlatzai area of Chaparhar district.
A pistol and three assault rifles were also recovered from him, he added. He said no civilians or security forces were unharmed in the operation.
The Islamic State (IS) and Taliban militants have not yet commented on these incidents.
