CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) member Abdul Basir Salangi on Tuesday said if the Taliban were unwilling to embrace peace, the people of Afghanistan would form a second resistance front against them.
Salangi said this while addressing a memorial ceremony for the victims of January 14, 1989 massacre in Salang district of central Parwan province.
According to reports, the former Soviet Union troops, while withdrawing from Afghanistan, on January 14, 1989 killed around 1,200 people in Salang district.
A memorial ceremony was held in Salang district to remember the victims. Abdul BasirSalangi talked about formation of a second resistance front against the Taliban.
He emphasized on people’s unity against the Taliban and said if the rebels did not make peace with the government, then they would face a resistance front.
After the Taliban captured Kabul in 1996, a resistance front was established against them. The resistance played a vital role in overthrowing the hard-line regime after the US invasion of Afghanistan.
“We are fighting among ourselves, we must fight against the enemy; our politicians are in anarchy and Taliban must know that they will not win the war which is not a resolution for Afghanistan,” Salangi added.
GhulamBahauddinJilani, State Minister for Disaster Management, in the ceremony said if the Taliban did not come to peaceful terms with the Afghan government, security forces were ready to fight them because had full support of the people.
Ahmad FaridSalangi, son of a martyred of January 14th, 1989 incident, said that he wanted a peace that preserved the achievements of the past 19 years.
FazluddinAyar, governor of Parwan province, emphasized over unity of people and said Parwan people were ready to host the Peace Jirga.
