KABUL (Pajhwok): NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has congratulated US President Joe Biden on his inauguration and welcomed his focus on rebuilding alliances.

Stoltenberg, who spoke to Biden on Tuesday evening, welcomed the US leader’s focus on rebuilding alliances, calling that NATO the place where Europeans and Americans met every day, a statement from the alliance said.

“Together, we can face challenges that none of our nations can face alone,” believed the NATO chief, who agreed with Biden to work together on preparing the NATO summit in Brussels later this year. Participants will take decisions to make their strong alliance even stronger.

The two sides discussed the range of challenges that NATO allies faced, such as countering international terrorism, including in Afghanistan and Iraq.

They also conferred on ways of dealing with a more assertive Russia, and addressing the implications for their security of the rise of China.

They also affirmed their intention to work together on other global challenges, like climate change and the Covid-10 pandemic, according to the NATO statement.

They stressed the need to maintain the momentum for increased defence spending, to keep NATO nations safe in an unpredictable world. “They looked forward to continuing to work very closely together.”
