PULI-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Two young men died and a third survived after a car they were travelling in crashed into a canal in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province, on Thursday.

The car plunged into Ajmer Nahr (canal) near the police headquarters.

Abdullah Malang, a spokesman for the Public Health Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two dead bodies had been transferred to the hospital.

He said the dead were young men who drowned and died in water before being evacuated to the hospital.

Police spokesman Ahmad Javed Basharat confirmed the incident and said two people died after their car crashed into the Ajmer River but a third person survived.

He said according to initial information given to police, the accident resulted from negligence but police were investigating to find out the real cause.

A few months ago, three people, including the son of the provincial national directorate of security head, were killed after their vehicle plunged into the same canal.
