Afghanistan’s Covid-19 death toll nears 2400

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Thursday announced recording 48 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours in the country.

The ministry in a statement said 1, 896 people underwent tests since Wednesday and the virus was detected in 48 people, pushing the overall tally to 54,939.

It said 16 cases were detected in Nangarhar, seven in Laghman, six in Helmand, three each in Herat, Kandahar, Kunar, two each in Kabul, Baghlan, Badghis, one each in Balkh, Parwan, Maidan Wardak and Badakhshan provinces.

The ministry said 34 people recovered from the infection, taking the recoveries to 47,583.

One patient died from the virus during the period, with the total death toll reaching 2,399.
